Wash Care Symbols

Washing

The washtub symbol shows you that your garment is suitable for washing. The recommended temperature is indicated by the number inside the tub.

A washtub with one bar indicates your clothes are suitable for a synthetic wash. Set the machine to wash with medium agitation.

Hand wash only. This indicates that the garment is too delicate to machine wash. Make sure the temperature is cool. (30°c or below)

A washtub with no bar tells you to set machine to use maximum action with a normal spin.

A washtub with two bars indicates that the garment needs to be washed as for wool. Set the machine action to minimum agitation and select a normal spin.

This shows that the garment should not be washed. Dryclean only.

Bleaching

This symbol shows that colour-safe bleach can be used when washing the garment. Strong liquid bleach, most commonly used for disinfectant, will remove the colour and may cause the garment to yellow and or disintegrate. Please read the care label before bleaching any garment.

Do not use bleach when washing any garment bearing this symbol.

The garment can be bleached using chlorine. Do not exceed the recommended strength solution. For fabrics the solution is usually is 1 part bleach to 100 parts water. (10 mils per litre of water)

Drying

Tumble drying is optional. This symbol indicates that the garment can be tumble dried.

Tumble dry at a medium heat setting.

Drip drying is recommended

Lay flat to dry. This is suitable for delicate garments that could be distorted by vertical drying.

Tumble dry at a low heat setting.

Tumble dry at a high heat setting.

Hang and line dry after removing excess water.

Do not tumble dry clothes bearing this symbol.

Ironing

The iron symbol shows you what temperature your clothes are best ironed at. The more dots visible the hotter the temperature of the iron

2 dot iron is a warm iron temperature of 150°c, suitable for polyester mixes, and wool garments.

This symbol shows that your clothes are not able to be ironed at all.

1 dot is a cool iron temperature of 110 °c, best used for acrylics,nylons and acetates.

3 dot iron is a hot iron temperature of 200 °c, this can be used for cottons and linens.

Dry Clean

The dry cleaning symbol is a circle containing a letter which refers to the solvent suitable for this garment. A bar underneath the circle indicates a milder process.

The letter F represents the solvent r113, a hydrocarbon, which is more environmentally friendly, and milder, making it ideal for embellished garments. The bar indicates a milder process.

Professional dry clean only. The letter P instructs the dry cleaner to use perchloroetheylene solvent. The bar indicates a milder process.

The garment cannot be dry cleaned.

The letter A indicates that your garment is able to be drycleaned using any drycleaning solvent.

The letter F represents the solvent r113 & hydrocarbon, which is more environmentally friendly, and milder, making it ideal for embellished garments.

This indicates that the garment can be drycleaned. The letter P refers to perchloroetheylene solvent, which is the most commonly used.
